BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS

We would like to introduce Kim Sacker, who is offering behavioural consultations here at Riverport Vets.  Kim is an veterinary nurse (RVN) who is well known locally, and is a provisional ABT (Animal Behaviour Technician) with the APBC (Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors).  Full and Provisional APBC members are assessed as having met the relevant standards set out by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC), whose standards are supported by many veterinary organisations.

Kim can accept referrals from Vets for behavioural issues in both cats and dogs.  All pets need to have had a veterinary consultation to ensure any underlying medical issues have been addressed before being seen for a behaviour consult.  All consultations take place at Riverport Vets in St Ives (no home visits at this time).  The behavioural package is outlined below:

Initial package:

  • Cost £120 (30% off for Healthy Pet Club members!)
  • Initial review of history and questionnaires
  • 1 hour consultation (in practice)
  • Bespoke report for client and the referring vet
  • 2 follow up e-mails including advice

Further consultations for the same condition if needed are usually about 30mins long and are charged at £60 per 30mins.  These prices compare favourably to similarly qualified behaviourists in the area.

We also offer a screening 15min phone call for £20 to see if a behaviour consult would be beneficial for clients and their pet.  If this phone call leads to a full consultation then the cost of the call will be taken off the cost of the behaviour package.

The sorts of behaviour problems that Kim can help with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Reactivity
  • Hormonal
  • Possession/guarding
  • Frustration
  • Destructive chewing
  • Fear based (fireworks/vets etc)
  • Separation issues
  • Socialisation to vets
  • Puppy/kitten guidance
  • Excitability
  • Inappropriate soiling
  • Inter house issues (fighting between pets)

Of course, if there are issues you are not sure are appropriate to refer, please feel free to reach out to Kim on 01480 772950 or e-mail enquiries@riverportvets.co.uk

A bit about Kim:

Having been an RVN for many years I was keen to develop my animal behaviour skills after coming across many people struggling with some common problems when I saw them in consult. Ensuring our companion animals are able to lead the most fulfilled life they can is a priority and helping owners understand how they can do this is one way to ensure this.

As a provisional ABT, during a consultation I aim to help the owner understand the behaviours being seen and provide first aid behavioural advice. If the situation is beyond my knowledge base I can refer on to a full APBC CAB.

I am waiting on my results from my Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour which will allow me to progress on to becoming a CAB myself.
